The Street Slayer

Character

Quote1

I never sleep, as sleep is the cousin of death.

Quote2
Nasir Jones

Not much is known about this young woman. Street wanderer. Illicit activities. Maybe even... homeless? If Harper is anything more than a human street rat, she doesn't let on.

Personality[]

Harper is very reluctant about embracing her Slayer fate, and thus it dives her to be aloof around people, trying to remain oblivious and in the dark about those surrounding her. However, if Harper sees an injustice being done, she will do all she can to right it... even putting herself in danger. This injustice can be toward a human, or a supernatural. Her justice is not biased.

SKILLS[]

ATHLETICS[]

Novice

Harper is a burgeoning athlete (mainly from running away from police or other unsavory types) especially skilled at running, swimming, and climbing. She usually uses these abilities to move around the city. Climbing up buildings. Running away from those who try to do her harm. Previously, she used to swim in school competitions. It's not uncommon to see her exercising around town via jogging on the sidewalks, or hitting a punching bag at a local boxing facility. Slayer's gotta keep in shape, right? Right.

FAST REFLEXES[]

Expert

Harper isn't even for sure on how she had gotten so fast - but her fast reflexes are something to be rivaled with other supernaturals. This has helped her out in dire situations, as she's not as strong as some of the other Slayers (perhaps because she's so young). Dodge. Weave. Duck. Jump. A punch thrown. Truly, this comes in handy when she's playing the offensive to those who are stronger and more skilled in combat than she.

MULTI-LINGUAL[]

Novice

Harper knows the basics of speaking and reading two languages: Latin and Russian. Russian she took courses on in school, and Latin she's simply had a knack for.

PICKPOCKETING[]

Competent

Woo! Everyone loves a Pickpocket. Okay. Maybe not as you lose everything important to you. But still! Harper is quite skilled at... lifting items from people. A bumping into a person. A sleight of hand. And bam! She has a wallet. Or phone. Or whatever else she can lift from that person. If someone happens to notice her? She runs, and no one has caught her yet.

POWERS[]

DURABILITY[]

Enhanced

As a Slayer, Harper has enhanced durability which actually comes in handy. This young woman can take a wallop (though she'd prefer not), and get back up after shaking it off. A bit harder to break than normal humans, she's not indestructible, but... just a wee bit harder to break. More sturdy. Can survive torture longer. Yay for her.

ORACLE[]

Supernatural

Harper is, and always has been an Oracle. She does not remember when it started, but remembers at a young age it frightening her as it would come during her sleep. These visions she receives she attributes to her nightmares, and all she wants in the world is to be rid of this power she has. While her power is supernatural in strength and power, it only comes when she's sleeping. She cannot will the visions to come to her. They come, when they come.

STRENGTH[]

Enhanced

Harper is far stronger than human level as she is a Slayer, able to punch harder, throw harder.. anything strength based she can do better than most mortals.

ADVANTAGES[]

WEAKNESSES[]

ALLERGIC TO SILVER[]

For some... messed up twist of fate Harper is allergic to silver. If exposed to silver, her throat can close up and her breathing could be compromised. If the exposure to silver is long enough, and severe enough, it could lead to her death.

IGNORING THE CALL[]

Really? REALLY? Who wants to spend their time killing vampires or other bad things that go bump in the night? Not Harper. Oh boy, not Harper. She tries to skirt around the danger of society, to avoid it. If a vampire attacks her, she will defend herself. But most nights she's someplace safe. Alone. Trying to ignore that gnawing feeling inside of her. For this reason, she tries to avoid danger and conflict. Fading into the background of life.

NERVE DAMAGE[]

Harper suffers from lingering nerve damage to her right hand when a vampire drove her own stake through the hand. She has scar tissue on the palm and back of her hand, and there's always a throb of pain associated with it. While Harper can fuction well enough regardless, the pain and uselessness of her right hand deepens when inclement weather happens (rain, snow, ice, etc). Barometric pressure, and all.

NIGHTMARES[]

Almost nightly, Harper suffers from nightmares that vary in nature. They could be violent premonitions, or simply being chased by a rabid goat. It ranges, but they are always there. Almost always debilitating. These nightmares, when she suffers from them leaves her mentally (and sometimes physcially) exhaused the next day.

While Harper did not live a charmed life when she was younger, she was never left wanting. She is the only child of her parents, and due to this, her parents especially doted on Harper - maybe doted TOO much, always giving her what she needed, and kept TABS on her whereabouts at all times to where they always wanted to know: where she was. Who she was with. When was she coming home, etc. Harper didn't mind though - for she really had no where to go as she wasn't very social with people her age.

Harper's father holds a high ranking'ish position at a technology company, and her mother is a librarian. With her father being a workaholic, Harper did not get much time to spend with him as she was growing up. Late night meetings. Conferences in neighboring towns often it was just her mother and herself. Her mother, who was Russian, would teach Harper Russian on the weekends, as well as take her to Russian Heritage festivals, go watch Russian movies at the local theater, and other Russian'y things. But the Russian language was not the only language she was taught. Oh no. As her mother was a librarian, Harper was taught the most inane, boring language ever (in her teenage eyes) Latin. Why would her mother teacher her Latin? Good question. Even Harper doesn't know.

When you have a computer geek for a father, and a book worm for a mother... well - their child is no doubt going to turn out quiet, introverted, and shy. And that is what Harpy is. Never one to be invited to a party, she seemed content to stay at home and watching a movie, or if she does go out it's to a bookstore or a coffee shoppe during the down time of the business. Her parents, noticing her lack of involvement with other people tried to force her to social by involving her in sports. Softball. Swimming. Track. While Harper did not get any friends out of these sports, she did turn into a impressive swimmer, as well as a decently fast sprinter.

Harper was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She lived in a nice loft with her parents across the street from the largest technology company in the city. She had access to the best restaurants, culture, and city life. Most of this, of course, was watched out of the windows of the loft while she did her work - Harper having been a very studious child when she was in school. While in high school, Harper didn't have many friends, nor did she date which made people more often than not question her sexuality. The other kids in school and around her age viewed Harper as being snobby - though she was anything but. Ash just tended to keep to herself, and can be very quiet, especially around her peers. She was not popular. Nor was she unpopular. She was smart... and the smart kids had their own social group in school. She's a kind person, friends with everyone, even though that circle is small. She was on track for early graduation that is, until the vampires came.

At the age of sixteen, the nightmares started coming. Harper wasn't for sure where they were coming from, or what they meant. Just that they came upon her suddenly. Her grades started dropping, the few people she /did/ speak to she stopped talking to them. The Nightmares were debilitating not only to her mentally and sometimes physically, but emotionally and socially as well. Little did Harper know she had become an Oracle, getting visions of the future and past during her dreams. No wonder they were nightmares. Premonitions of what she will eventually have to face as a Slayer.

Perhaps even more unexplainable was the sudden strength she seemed to possess. The feats of athletics that just started to appear. She was becoming scared. Worried. As were her parents. Her parents sought help for Harper, and somehow a Watcher found her by the name of Hendrick.

After opening Harper's eyes to the reality and now eternal battle she has found herself in she stayed under Hendricks's guidance for about two months. She was always reluctant to embrace being a Slayer - but then the accident happened. One night her and Hendricks were out field training, and they came upon a vampire. The vampire attacked them, and Harper attacked the vampire. A blue of motion, and then a scream from Harper cut through the night. Her own stake was driven through her right hand, and the vampire got away. It suddenly became VERY real to Harper. This was not a game. The battle was real.

Harper ran. She ran away from her parents. Ran away from school. Ran away from her life. Hendrick always told her, "No one who knows what you are will be safe." What Hendricks never really told her, was how much her own life would be in danger. She carries a constant reminder about the first and last battle she had with a vampire, which comes in the form of a jagged scar on the palm and top part of her hand, as well as a forever throb of pain from the nerve damage she suffered (which grows in intensity when inclement weather is afoot).

Due to Harper being a Slayer, she knows that there is magic, demons, vampires, and all sorts of things that go bump in the night. However, she has had minimal interactions with them. And she likes it that way. Perhaps her greatest secret is that she has never slew a vampire, or anything else. She is ignoring the Call, even if it torments her through visions and nightmares. Harper knows she won't be able to hold out forever ignoring the Call but for now? She is.

And so she wanders from town to town -- and for about four months she ran with other street rats she met in Kansas City, Missouri. With her new group of 'friends' she learned how to pick pockets, and reach into unsuspecting purses of females shopping using a hanging shirt as cover. While Harper did commit this crime, she didn't do it very often, and resorted to this only when she needed money. She was a pickpocket with a conscience. Yes, there are some. Eventually though, she relocated to this city as she's a wanderer at heart. A Nomad. Seventeen now, she has contemplated going back to school, but what will probably happen is that she'll get her GED then go to community college. Maybe. She doesn't even know what she wants to do. But, she SHOULD probably get a job. Right? Right.
