San Francisco - The Hyperion Hotel - Harper's Room[]

The lights are on, illuminating the area.

A fairly spacious room, this one is also clean and smells fresh, though there's a sort of age in the scent, something that nothing can really draw out of the walls of the place. The decor has a sort of mod, art deco feel about it. It's not unpleasant though, and the large bed is made neatly, with soft, plush bedclothes and fluffy pillows. A small table, enough room for only two, sits near the window with two chairs. Dark red drapes blot out the window, but they part easily enough. An air conditioner unit sits on the wall nearby. A small bathroom with a combination shower and tub, as well as of course a toilet, sink, and well-lit mirror, lies nearer to the door.

Outside, it's snowing heavily.

Finding places to sleep in a hotel isn't difficult. There are rooms, and beds, and chairs. Derrick found somewhere to kip down when the sun came up, and remained there in his found dark space until the sun set. Then he wakes, and immediately goes to check on Harper again. He knocks upon the door, and then says only just loud enough to carry through the door, "It's Derrick."

"Come in." And there is Harper, laying on her side on the bed looking as comfortable as can be. Her clothing conveys that for she's in her normal tank top and yoga pants. Feet bare. For all the stink she throws out to Angel, when he's not around she's more relaxed. Comfy. Right now she has a deck of tarot cards spread out infront of her as her fingers are lightly flicking over them (complete with her black fingernails). Touching them. Before he can question she simply says, "I am going to try and shift my foretelling to the tarot, than my dreams. I would like a night's sleep. Peaceful."

Derrick opens the door and enters when he hears her voice, and then closes it behind him. He does tilt his head at the tarot cards, but yes, Harper explains before he can ask. He nods. "Ah. Think it works that way?" he asks. "Maybe if you know whatever 'it' is trying to tell you before you go to bed, that it won't resort to nightmares?" Pause. "I s'pose it's worth a shot, right?" And suddenly he gets an idea. "Hey, maybe you can do that to get some extra money on the side. Maybe set up a table somewhere and offer low-price readings?"

"No. I'm not a charlatan. If I need money I just steal it." Which is obviously better? She pushes herself up into a seated position as the cards are straightened into a stack before being worked back into their container. "How did your talk with that vampire go?" A perk of her brow to Derrick at this before the cards are just sat on the end table via a stretching of her form. "Trying to get a job though. You know. Straight and narrow."

"I wasn't going to consider you lie to people," Derrick replies. "I mean. If they can tell you about the future, they can at least point others in the right direction." He seems to actually believe that the tarot has at least a little bit of truth. The question of the talk with Angel gets a thoughtful look. "I asked him a lot of questions. Like... a LOT. About the Slayers, about what's going on, other things. He told me... basically what's going on with the Slayers in general. Didn't give me much specific information about you, though. I made him a promise that if I saw anything weird, I'd call him. Not like... weird about you, but weird in general. Supernatural stuff that ought not be going on, that kind of thing. If I'm not going to fight it, it makes sense to call the people who do."

Harper gives a small nodding of her head to Derrick's words about the conversation with Angel as she gives a small quirk of her lips. "He doesn't know much about me, to tell you much. You probably know more than he does, Derrick." A hand to the side of her bed as she pats it. Inviting him to sit instead of hover. "I am thinking about going back to school though. I don't know. I don't like being around people much these days."

At the patting of the bed Derrick moves to sit next to her. He nods as she mentions going back to school. "Could definitely help. Employers like degrees. And a high school degree at least is going to be pretty much necessary. There are online programs if you don't want to bother with a campus. And they do have high school programs."

Harper gives a small shrug of her shoulders to Derrick's words about her doing an online course or otherness. "I'm sure Angel can get me a fake degree, Derrick. Or find me someone else's fake degree. Actually, I should probably see him about getting new identification altogether." A glance toward the window and the night sky then back to Derrick. "So... what do you think? Do you want to stay here with me instead of the sewers? Or do you want to go back to the sewers?"

Derrick looks surprised at her words. "Changed your mind?" he asks. "I thought you didn't want any part of this bunch." He doesn't sound upset or angry. Just surprised. "It's really up to you. I'll support you, whatever you want to do."

Harper gives a shaking of her head at Derrick to his words, "No. I haven't changed my mind. This is just a nice... soft bed is all. Didn't know if you were getting spoiled. I know I am." A bit of amusement in her voice at this, "I mean... it's nice to have a shower whenever I want." Pause. "But, I do miss our space as well. In the sewers. It was peaceful. It was Ours."

Derrick nods. "I can understand that, yeah," he agrees. "It's a little weird for me here, since... well, I didn't think I was 'used to' being a vampire, but it feels a bit weird not to be able to change. But I can walk out the front door now... or, more importantly, walk in the front door. So it's not as important." As for the place in the sewers? "It's still there. We can go back when you want. Maybe if things get too much for you out here, we can go back and stay there a while. Then come back when you're ready?"

Harper regards Derrick as he speaks to her - and while he speaks she reaches out to hook her index finger around his own to touch him. It's a platonic touch - much like a 'there, there' touch. "Well. I suppose we can stay a few more days. Just until I meet more people. I suppose I should go say hello to Willow. Check on her. Maybe take her flowers... since you know, her hands were in my chest. We hadn't even been on a date." A smirk to Derrick at this followed by a light chuckle. "And you can meet new people as well."

Derrick half-smiles at the hooking of her finger around his. But he does nod to the mention of Willow. He notes that she uses the other woman's name rather than just calling her 'Witch'. And he snickers at the joke. "I think we can excuse it this time. Besides, you can always have dinner with her going forwards." He smirks. Then he notes, "...I haven't had a chance to check in on her either. I hope she's all right."

"She seemed fine - and I'm sure someone has checked on her. If she wasn't fine, I'm sure we would know." A small flexing of her finger about his own before Harper withdraws her hand as she just reaches for that bottle of whiskey. Only having a few swallows left really. Which she swallows right now before dropping the empty bottle into the trashcan next to her. "So... you're fine with... all of this? Vampires? Demons? Witches? And... me?"

Derrick nods again. "You're probably right; we'd have heard something if she wasn't," he agrees. He's quiet until she speaks again, the bottle in the trash. Though he blinks at what she asks. He smiles. "Well I mean, I'm a vampire myself. So if I had a problem with vampires, I'd really have a problem, right?" A chuckle. "I'm... still learning about it all myself," he admits. "So I'm not objecting to there being someone there while I'm learning. I only just now realized I haven't even been using any of my senses."

Harper gives a slow nodding of her head to his words, "Yeah. I'm not actively trying to use my powers. They lie dormant. I guess I've used my strength a lot. Especially lately. But that's really about it." A rolling shrug of her shoulders as she regards Derrick. "You know, if you ever need me to give you blood. I will. Just know that, so if it ever comes to be there isn't this awkward... moment between us." A light laugh from her at this then a smirk.

"About the same. Other than the bird and rat," Derrick replies. So the bird isn't his only other form! Though Harper hasn't seen him as a rat, to his knowledge. "They're good for running away or hiding." Then the mention of blood comes up... and Derrick's eyes go wide. "W-wh-wha?" He stutters. "Oh, uh... n-no, I don't wanna start on human blood. I'm afraid if I start I won't wanna stop."

"It's going to happen at some point, Derrick. I'm just letting you know that if you're ever in dire need, it's cool. I get it." A jerking of her chin to the cupboard though, "But like Angel said, you have blood here. I'm not... for sure what type of blood it is though. Could be human. Could be Fae. Could just be magic blood."

Derrick looks panicked at the thought of drinking blood from a human. But he... manages to get control of it. "Uh... w-well. Let's... try to put it off as long as possible, right? I really don't want to know what happens if I drink human blood. I'm too new to this to know how to stop myself." He nods to the mention of the blood in the cupboard. "There's that too. Angel said no one died for it. So it's probably just 'magically created substance that acts in all ways like blood for a vampire'."

Then he stands, reaching to pat her on the shoulder. "Speaking of which, I probably ought to go hunt up some dinner. I'm not totally convinced that magical Fae-made blood isn't going to do something bad to me. I'll be back in a little while, okay?"

Harper lifts her hand to put it on his own as she gives his hand a light squeeze. "Doesn't mean it's not human blood. Just that they didn't die for it." A faint smirk from her at this before she releases his hand as Harper just lays back down on her side. Lounging there. Watching him. "Good hunting, Derrick. Stop by before you head to bed in the morning, okay? I'm probably going to get some sleep... or at least try."

"Exactly," Derrick replies, to the mention of the blood possibly still being human. "I dunno what effect it'll have. I'd rather stick with my routine. Rats ain't that tasty, but it keeps me from wanting to take a bite out of something that can be categorized as a 'person'." He gives a half-smile, and nods to her request. "I will. Sleep good," he replies. He'll make to tuck her in -- or at least fix the blanket around her -- before he heads out of the room.
